Your quickest route to a useful report

Start with one restaurant website. You can understand the core workflow before connecting a paid API account.

  1. Open Check a Website, enter a public website URL and choose the restaurant category.
  2. Review the findings and confidence. Expand the evidence before interpreting the score.
  3. Add Google Places when you want to discover real businesses and assess business strength.
  4. Add OpenAI only when you want extra sales guidance. Your score and core report do not depend on it.

API setup guides

1. Google Places: discover real restaurants

  1. Sign in to Google Cloud Console. Create a dedicated project or select one you control.
  2. Attach the billing account required by Google. Review current Maps Platform pricing.
  3. In the API Library, enable Places API (New).
  4. Under APIs & Services → Credentials, create an API key. Restrict it to Places API (New). For application restrictions, use the server’s outbound IP only when your deployment provides a stable address; a browser/referrer restriction does not fit this server-side app.
  5. In this app’s Settings, paste it into Google Places API key and choose Test Connection. This makes one minimal Google query and may incur a charge.
  6. Search one city/category and analyze one selected business. Review usage in Google Cloud before doing more.

Official instructions: Places API setup · Key restrictions and security.

2. PageSpeed: optional mobile diagnostics key

  1. Select optional mobile diagnostics on Check a Website to try PageSpeed without a key.
  2. If quota or access prevents testing, enable PageSpeed Insights API in a Google Cloud project and create an appropriately API-restricted key.
  3. Paste it into the separate PageSpeed field in Settings and test. The test analyzes example.com; it does not analyze your current prospect.
  4. Run the restaurant analysis. If PageSpeed still fails, use the other findings and review the site manually.

Official PageSpeed setup. A key does not guarantee unrestricted access or unlimited quota.

3. OpenAI: optional sales guidance

  1. Sign in to the OpenAI API platform, choose your project and configure API billing. ChatGPT and API billing are separate.
  2. Create a project API key in API keys. Use an ordinary project key, not an organization admin key. Apply permissions appropriate for Responses generation and model access.
  3. Paste it into OpenAI Sales Intelligence in Settings. Enable AI Sales Intelligence and test access. Leave the advanced model at its default unless you need another supported model.
  4. Complete a restaurant analysis, then click Generate Sales Intelligence on its report. Read what will be shared before generating.
  5. Review every recommendation. Regenerate only when needed; it makes another API request.

Your data and spending: what to know

Controls built into this app

  • Keys stay in memory and clear on refresh or close.
  • Provider requests run through the app server; keys are not in URLs, reports or AI prompts.
  • Search never triggers bulk website audits or AI generation.
  • Website fetching blocks private networks and limits redirects, size and time.
  • AI is explicitly triggered and cannot modify the deterministic score.

Controls you manage

  • Use a trusted device and HTTPS for a public deployment.
  • Restrict keys and review usage in the provider console.
  • Set alerts and any supported usage/spend controls. Check what they actually enforce.
  • Keep keys out of screenshots, notes and messages. Revoke exposed keys at the provider.
  • Store client details only on a device you trust; keep your own contact backup.

Alerts are not always caps. Google’s alerts-only budgets notify you but do not automatically stop charges. Review supported quotas or spending controls separately. Google budget guidance.

Understand provider data handling. OpenAI API inputs are not used for training by default unless you opt in. The app requests no stored Response object, but provider retention rules still apply. OpenAI data controls.

Saved agency/client contacts are local to this browser and separate from session-only keys and analysis. They are not automatically sent to Google or OpenAI. No system can guarantee absolute security. Read our Privacy and Terms pages for the app’s scope.

Common questions-and the ones worth asking

Questions & answers

Choose how you work

Do I need my own Google Places key?

No. Choose Check a Restaurant Website on Overview and enter a known public website. That path makes no Google Places requests, even with a key entered. Add owner-provided details to your client profile; they do not replace verified Google data in the automated score.

Can I switch paths later?

Yes. Use Change how you work. Your research choice stays in this browser after refresh, but keys do not. Google Places, mobile diagnostics and OpenAI are separate choices. Switching paths does not enable AI or mobile diagnostics.

What sales help is available without an OpenAI key?

Current Analysis has a sales checklist and a copy-and-paste prompt for your own AI service. Review the prompt before sharing. Notes are excluded unless you choose to include them. Raw Google business fields and saved contacts are excluded.

Does the website path use outside services?

The hosted server fetches the public website. Google Places is not used. PageSpeed runs only if you select mobile diagnostics. OpenAI runs only when you choose connected guidance and click Generate. This is not an offline app.

Are reports and client tools different for each path?

No. Both paths use the same owner reports, intake, menus, manual reviews, FAQs and backups. Available evidence can differ. Missing Google or mobile data remains unavailable, never invented.

Choose how you work

Do I need my own Google Places key?

No. Choose Check a Restaurant Website on Overview and enter a known public website. This path makes no Google Places requests, even if a key is entered. Add owner-provided business details to your saved client; they do not replace verified Google data in the automated score.

Can I switch paths later?

Yes. Use Change how you work. Your research choice stays in this browser after refresh, but keys do not. Google Places, PageSpeed and OpenAI are separate choices. Switching research paths does not automatically enable AI or mobile diagnostics.

What sales help is available without an OpenAI key?

Current Analysis includes a sales preparation checklist and an optional copy-and-paste prompt. Review the prompt before sharing it with an outside AI service. Analysis notes are excluded unless you select Include my analysis notes. Raw Google business fields and saved contact records are excluded.

Does the website path use any outside services?

The hosted server fetches the public website. Google Places is not used on that path. PageSpeed is requested only if you select optional mobile diagnostics. OpenAI is requested only when you choose connected guidance and click Generate. This is not an offline app.

Do the two paths have different reports or Client Tools?

No. Both use the same owner report, intake, menus, manual reviews, FAQs and backups. Available evidence can differ. Missing Google or mobile data is shown as unavailable, not fabricated.

Client Tools, delivery & branding

How do I use the new Client Tools?

Select a saved client in Client Tools. Use the Roadmap to move from discovery and analysis to owner presentation, intake, menu preparation and validation. Progress checkboxes are your own tracking; they do not perform work automatically.

What does Client Intake produce?

Enter the owner-provided project details to generate a build brief, an asset request and a project checklist. Copy, download, or print any document with your agency and client header. Requests are drafts; the app never sends them.

Does intake completion mean the project is ready?

No. The meter counts completed fields. You still need to confirm asset receipt, permissions, agreed scope, price, account access and final approval with the owner. Ask for delegated access instead of passwords.

How does Menu Whisperer work?

Paste plain text from an owner-provided menu. Format menu identifies likely categories, items and prices. Edit every field as needed and export CSV or a printable menu. It does not directly read photos or PDFs, and parsing can make mistakes.

Will my edited menu stay with the right client?

Yes. Original text and edited items save separately for each client. Switching clients loads their saved work. Formatting again replaces existing edits only after confirmation. Up to 500 items are supported per client.

Can AI help rewrite menu descriptions without an API key?

The optional copy-and-paste workflow creates a prompt for a service you choose. Copying alone makes no external request; pasting into that service shares the included menu facts with it. Preview the reply before applying. Verify ingredients, preparation methods, dietary suitability and prices with the owner.

Do manual reviews change the Opportunity Score?

No. They are consultant observations with status, evidence, suggested next steps and a review date. Print them separately or explicitly include them in the owner snapshot after checking the report recipient. Never claim proven revenue loss from an unverified observation.

How do I put my agency logo on reports?

Settings → Agency & saved clients → Agency report logo. Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 500 KB and 4096 pixels per side, then Save agency profile. Your logo appears on report and document headers. The app keeps its own Restaurant Agency Studio favicon.

How do I use the structured data and FAQ exports?

Enter owner-confirmed public facts. Fix all validation messages and check the verification box to export. Add Restaurant JSON-LD through the website code settings and publish matching visible information. FAQ markup must match visible FAQ copy. Validate the final page using Schema Markup Validator and Google Rich Results Test; no search appearance is promised.

Will llms.txt or schema make AI recommend a restaurant?

No promise is possible. Google says special AI files or schema are not needed for its AI search features. llms.txt is an optional informational file, not a ranking guarantee. Focus on accurate public information, a useful website and measurable maintenance work.

What saves automatically and what leaves this browser?

Client Tools automatically saves user-entered intake, menu edits, manual reviews and roadmap progress in local browser storage. Agency and contact forms use Save. These records are not encrypted or automatically sent to AI. Live analysis uses the server and selected providers. An external AI copy-and-paste step follows that provider’s policies.

How do I back up or restore client work?

Download client backup in Client Tools. Store it privately: it contains client information. Restore it in Settings to add a separate copy without overwriting another client. API keys, live Google results and automated analyses are excluded. Agency details and logo must be saved separately.

What happens if browser storage is full?

The app reports that changes were not saved. Download the current work before leaving the client, free storage or remove unneeded records, then retry. Clearing all site data removes contacts, client work, logos and preferences.

Can I use all of this offline?

This is a hosted app that needs an internet connection to load and to run discovery and analysis. Client Tools performs its editing and generation in the browser without API calls. It is not an installed offline app.

Where can I replay the walkthrough or switch themes?

Start or replay the walkthrough from the Dashboard or Help Center. Use the sun/moon button in the header for light or dark mode. Theme and walkthrough preferences save locally. Printed documents use a light background.

Getting started

What is this app for?

It helps a consultant find restaurant prospects, evaluate the combination of business strength and website opportunity, and prepare a relevant Restaurant Agency Studio demo. It does not build websites or acquire clients for you.

What is an API key, in plain English?

It is a private credential that lets this app request a service from your provider account. Think of it as a service access pass with billing attached. It is not your Google or OpenAI account password.

Why bring my own keys?

Your provider account controls access, usage and billing. You can monitor activity, restrict access and revoke a key yourself. API usage is paid directly to the provider; it is not included with this app.

Can I try the app without any keys?

Yes. Open Check a Website, enter a public restaurant website URL, choose its category, and analyze it. You get website findings and deterministic recommendations; Google business information will be unavailable. PageSpeed may work without a key when Google allows the request.

Which key do I actually need?

Google Places is required only for discovering and resolving real businesses through Google. PageSpeed and OpenAI keys are optional. Start with website checks, add Google for prospect discovery, then add AI only if you want additional sales guidance.

Do I need coding skills or to install WordPress?

No. You configure provider accounts and paste keys into Settings. Restaurant Agency Studio is a separate website-building product; it does not need to be installed to run this analysis.

Do I need a ChatGPT subscription?

No. Optional OpenAI API access uses a separate API account and billing arrangement. A ChatGPT subscription is not a substitute for an API key.

API access & costs

Why use Google Places?

It supplies real business identities and current profile signals such as address, rating, review count and website. That adds business context to the opportunity score. Without it, you can still examine a website, but cannot verify business strength through this app.

Why use PageSpeed?

It adds a mobile Lighthouse diagnostic snapshot for performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO. A key can help with access and automated usage; it does not guarantee unlimited quota or successful tests.

What does OpenAI add?

After the rule-based report is ready, it can generate a strategic summary, sales opportunities, demo plan, conversation starter, discovery questions, likely objections, project scope and next action. It does not determine your score.

Who pays, and is usage free?

You pay Google and OpenAI directly under your account terms. Pricing, credits and allowances can change. Check provider pricing before use; the app does not display a live bill or guarantee a free allowance.

Which clicks may cause charges?

Find Prospects, Load More, Google connection testing and selected business resolution/details make Google requests. Analyze requests PageSpeed only when optional mobile diagnostics is enabled and a website exists. Generate and Regenerate Sales Intelligence request OpenAI generation. Searching never automatically audits every result or generates AI.

How do I avoid surprise spending?

Use a dedicated project, review current pricing, set provider usage controls and alerts, start with one search and one analysis, and check usage before scaling. Repeated analyses and AI regeneration make new requests. Alerts alone should not be treated as an automatic spending stop.

Why do search results use an Enterprise billing tier?

The visible rating, review count, website and price fields can raise the Google Text Search billing tier. The app requests selected fields, not every field, but a smaller response does not necessarily mean the lowest-priced tier.

Can I use one Google key for Places and PageSpeed?

A Google key may be usable for both if its project enables both APIs and its restrictions allow both. Separate keys make troubleshooting and revocation clearer. Enter it in each applicable field; the app does not silently reuse the Places key for PageSpeed.

Why does my browser-restricted Google key fail?

This app calls Google from its server, not directly from the browser. Website/referrer restrictions are not appropriate for that route. Restrict the key to the needed APIs and use the server’s actual outbound IP if the host provides a stable one. Do not guess the IP or enter 127.0.0.1 for hosted requests.

Does Test Connection guarantee everything will work?

No. It checks the tested provider operation at that moment. Quotas, permissions and models can differ for later requests. The OpenAI test checks model access; it does not generate a report or guarantee generation quota.

Security & privacy

Where do my API keys go?

You enter them in Settings. They stay in active browser memory and pass transiently through this app’s server to the matching provider. They are not put in a URL, saved in a database, or sent to the AI as prompt text.

Are keys saved when I refresh or close the page?

No. API keys clear on refresh or close. Navigation inside the app preserves them for the active session. Saved agency/client contact records are separate and never include API keys.

Is it completely risk-free?

No software can promise that. The app limits credential storage and request destinations, but a compromised device, malicious browser extension or improperly configured hosting can still expose data. Use a trusted device and a trusted HTTPS deployment.

Is it normal that the local preview uses HTTP?

The 127.0.0.1 preview is served on your own computer. A public deployment accepting API keys should use HTTPS. Do not enter keys into an unfamiliar public HTTP site or a copied link you do not trust.

Can the app read my Gmail, files, or payment card?

The implemented requests are for Places, PageSpeed and optional OpenAI analysis. The app has no Gmail/Drive connector or payment-card form. Restrict your keys to the required services rather than assuming every credential is narrowly scoped by default.

What is sent to OpenAI?

Only when you generate intelligence: restaurant category, derived score/confidence, structured non-Google findings and your current analysis notes. The app excludes raw Google business fields, raw HTML and the saved agency/client address book. Do not put private or unnecessary personal information in analysis notes.

Does OpenAI retain or train on API inputs?

OpenAI states that API data is not used for model training by default unless you opt in. This app requests store:false, but that is not a promise of zero provider retention: abuse-monitoring and account-specific policies can still apply. Review the linked OpenAI data controls before sending sensitive content.

What should I do if a key is exposed?

Revoke it in the provider console, review usage and billing, create a replacement with appropriate restrictions, and replace it in Settings. Clearing the app’s input does not revoke the provider credential. Never send a full key in screenshots, notes, email or support messages.

Does this app store or sell Google prospect lists?

It keeps live Google business content only in the current session and does not sell it. Saved contacts must be independently supplied by you. Google content is not automatically copied into the address book or client export.

Can I use this on a shared computer?

Avoid saving client contact details on a shared device. They use browser local storage and are not encrypted by this app. Clear session keys when finished, delete saved contacts when appropriate, and remember that downloaded PDFs remain on the device.

How does website fetching protect the server?

The audit blocks local/private/reserved network targets, checks DNS, pins approved addresses, rechecks redirects, limits time and download size, and never executes downloaded code. These controls help prevent arbitrary website URLs from reaching private network services.

Finding & analyzing prospects

Why did the category list previously show only Italian Restaurant?

The earlier autocomplete filtered suggestions to match its prefilled text. The category control now shows the complete predefined list every time. Choose Other / custom category for a category that is not listed.

How should I choose a restaurant category?

Use the closest operating category, not simply the restaurant’s name. The category guides search and influences which conversion paths matter: ordering for pizza, booking for full service, or inquiry for catering. Confirm it before analyzing.

Why are there fewer results than I requested?

Google may return fewer matches. Minimum-review filtering is applied to each returned page, so some or all results can be filtered out. Broaden filters or use Load More if a token is available.

Does the app analyze all search results?

No. Search is discovery only. You select one restaurant and start analysis before the app retrieves richer details, inspects its website or requests PageSpeed. This keeps you in control of time and usage.

Why must I confirm a manually searched restaurant?

Similar names can refer to different locations or businesses. Selecting the correct result avoids analyzing the wrong prospect. A supplied URL can still be analyzed if Google lookup fails.

What if there is no website?

A missing website in completed Google details is a strong opportunity signal, not a perfect score. Website-dependent checks remain unknown or not applicable. Confirm whether the restaurant actually has a site elsewhere before pitching.

What exactly does the audit inspect?

The primary page’s HTML and robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt. It detects relevant paths and markup without executing JavaScript, browsing every linked page, submitting forms, placing orders or booking tables.

Why does it say a feature was not detected when I can see it?

The feature may be on another page, rendered with JavaScript, hidden behind a widget or blocked from automated requests. Treat the finding as a page-level observation. Manually verify it and record your context in User Notes.

Why are some items unknown?

Blocked pages, sparse JavaScript-dependent HTML, timeouts or unavailable provider fields cannot be verified. Unknown is not a failure and reduces confidence. Do not describe unknown checks as missing features to a client.

Can I analyze social profiles or private websites?

Use the restaurant’s public HTTP(S) website. Private/local addresses, credentials in URLs, query strings and nonstandard ports are rejected. Social-only profiles may block inspection or provide little restaurant website evidence.

Scores, AI & responsible selling

What does a high score mean?

It indicates a potentially attractive consulting opportunity based on business strength, website need, revenue-path opportunities and demo fit. It is not a restaurant rating, purchase-intent prediction or guarantee of a client.

How are the 100 points divided?

Business Value: 25. Website Need: 35. Revenue Opportunities: 25. Sales / Demo Fit: 15. Expand the category evidence to see earned points, verified weight and coverage. AI does not calculate these values.

Can I trust a high score with low confidence?

Treat it as provisional. Unknowns reduce coverage; low-coverage categories are not extrapolated. Website-only totals exclude unavailable business categories from the score denominator, so do not compare them blindly with complete prospect analyses.

Does a coffee shop lose points for having no reservation system?

Table booking is not treated as a primary requirement for cafes. Relevance changes with restaurant type. Confirm the operating model before drawing conclusions; the classification is an aid, not perfect business knowledge.

Does a catering or gift-card opportunity prove that service exists?

No. Missing revenue paths are potential opportunities to validate. Ask the restaurant whether it offers or wants the service before proposing functionality or claiming lost business.

Can AI invent details or revenue estimates?

AI is instructed to use supplied findings and its evidence citations are checked against them, but generated interpretation can still be wrong. Review every claim. The app does not supply traffic, conversion or sales figures, so it cannot substantiate lost-revenue claims.

Why can a score change when I run an analysis again?

The scoring rules are deterministic for identical input, but websites, Google data, PageSpeed results and data availability can change. Compare the evidence and coverage, not just the total.

Does llms.txt or FAQ schema guarantee AI-search visibility?

No. These are possible content and technical foundations, not guarantees of rankings, AI citations or traffic. Explain their limited role rather than promising search outcomes.

What should I verify before contacting an owner?

Confirm business identity and operating status, manually check the highest-impact website findings, validate any suggested service, and choose a relevant demo. Use respectful language and distinguish verified observations from questions or recommendations.

Does the app send outreach or build the restaurant’s website?

No. It prepares findings and a conversation starter. You handle outreach and any applicable requirements. Restaurant Agency Studio handles the separate demo/build/delivery workflow.

Agency, clients & reports

Why save my agency information?

Your uploaded agency logo, business name, contact person, email, phone, website and address can prefill the report’s Prepared by section. That makes printed snapshots and copied summaries more useful to send or discuss with clients.

Can I save more than one client?

Yes. Settings → Agency & saved clients supports multiple user-entered contact records (up to 250). Add, edit or delete records, then choose the report recipient from the report dropdown. Confirm that recipient before sharing.

Are clients saved to the cloud or shared with my team?

No. They stay in local storage for this browser and app address. Another device, browser, private browsing session or changed URL/port has separate storage. There is no account system or automatic sync.

Does saving a client also save its audits or Google results?

Automated analyses, analysis notes, API keys and Sales Intelligence remain transient. Client Tools separately saves your independently entered intake, edited menus, manual reviews and project progress in this browser. Re-run analysis for fresh automated findings.

What if I clear browsing data or lose this device?

Saved contacts can be lost. Keep your main client address book or CRM as your backup. Download each client backup in Client Tools. Restore a backup from Settings when needed. The app has no cloud recovery.

Are saved contact records sent to OpenAI?

No. Agency/client fields are used for report presentation and copy/print. Analysis notes are a separate field that is sent when you explicitly generate AI intelligence.

What is included in the client snapshot?

Selected user-entered agency/client details, website observations, supporting evidence and mobile metrics. You can explicitly include saved consultant observations for the selected client. It excludes internal lead priority, raw Google business data, private analysis notes and AI sales text.

How do I save a PDF or send a report?

Select the correct client, inspect the Client-Friendly Snapshot, then choose Print Snapshot and your browser’s Save as PDF destination. Copy Summary copies a client-safe text version. You decide how to share it; the app does not send it.

Can I remove agency or client details from a report?

Choose No client selected to omit recipient details. Clear your agency profile in Settings if you want it omitted. Those actions do not change the underlying opportunity score.

Why not automatically save every Google result as a client?

Discovery results are not necessarily clients, and Google has restrictions on storing and redistributing its content. The contact list deliberately uses your independently collected information and does not become a stored Google lead database.

Troubleshooting

Google says the key is invalid or access is denied. What next?

Check that you selected the right Google project, enabled Places API (New), configured billing, copied the complete key, and applied server-compatible restrictions. Allow configuration changes time to propagate. Test again without repeatedly clicking.

PageSpeed failed. Is my report useless?

No. Other findings and scores still work. Verify the URL, try later, check API access/quota, or add an optional PageSpeed key. The app does not convert missing performance metrics into a zero.

OpenAI reports quota, billing or model errors. What next?

Check your API project’s billing/usage, available model and key permissions. A working ChatGPT subscription does not resolve API billing issues. The base report stays intact when AI fails.

What if the AI response could not be verified?

The result did not meet the expected schema or cite supplied evidence correctly. Retry explicitly or use another supported model in Advanced Settings. Do not keep regenerating indefinitely; each generation may cost money.

Why does the app ask me to wait before trying again?

The app or provider may be limiting rapid or concurrent requests. Wait, avoid duplicate clicks and check provider quotas. Repeated clicking does not bypass the limits.

I cannot save agency/client details. What should I check?

Check email formatting and field lengths, and whether browser storage is blocked or full. Private mode may discard stored records. The app reports a save failure rather than claiming your contacts were saved.

What information is useful when reporting a problem?

Describe the screen, steps, approximate time and sanitized error text. Include a public website URL only if appropriate. Remove full keys, authorization headers, billing details and private client information from screenshots or messages.
